Edward F. Haas is a New Orleans native who went to college at the private four year institution at Tulane University in New Orleans, to earn his B.A. in history. While he was there, Hurricane Betsy hit the gulf coast where Haas had the firsthand experience of the effects. He thinks highly of the mayor’s quick responses and how he handled the situation, which most likely leads to his passion for local politics. Haas then went to earn his Ph.D., in 1972 from the University of Maryland at College Park in Ohio.…

I am greatly honored to be a recipient of the 2016, 2017 Witham Trustee Scholarship. Thank you very much for the kind generosity of this gift. Your support will greatly help my family through the struggle of paying for college. Just earlier this year, a brother of mine has graduated from this University and wishes to move on to medical school, which leaves quite the financial burden on them. The scholarship you have given me helps offset that burden just that little bit that greatly helps my family.…
Growing up in Louisiana has been a part of my life. Before moving back to Virginia in the 7th grade, we resided in Louisiana for about 7 years. We would travel to New Orleans very often for various sporting events that my siblings and I would participate in or we would go to watch the New Orleans Saints or the New Orleans Pelicans play. New Orleans has so much to offer that for all ages. Many people may think that New Orleans is only for adults but there are some kid-friendly things to do.…

Each term, she continuously excels far beyond what is expected of her and it is with great pleasure that I recommend Chinnu for this scholarship.…
The values and standards of National Honor Society are the four important pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. A person needs to represent all four pillars to uphold the honor of National Honor Society, just like a table with four legs must balance a table. I have developed through the years to be a strong leader, holding the table of scholarship, leadership, service, and character and I would be so very honored to hold this leadership with National Honor Society. Scholarship is holding myself to a high standard, academically and socially. I display a strong sense of scholarship as I have maintained the Highest Honor Roll each grade of my High School career, Middle School and even Elementary School, I love to learn!…

As a general contractor, my father exceeds the standards of a hard, dedicated worker. However, he will not be able to pay entirely for my college education. My father is a member of Laborers Local 942 in Fairbanks, Alaska, and while he has not worked for them directly in some time, my mother is currently seasonally employed with them. Her financial contributions have provided myself some small luxuries, but have not been plentiful enough to provide towards educational costs. I have been paying my way through school thus far with scholarship money, and if necessary, funds from my part-time job at the UAS Financial Aid Office.…
The music, the food, the culture, everything about New Orleans is completely unique and mesmerizing. One of the things that drew me to Tulane is the mere fact that it is situated in such an amazing city. Tulane and New Orleans are irrevocably intertwined and that makes an already amazing school even more intriguing. One of the defining characteristics of New Orleans is the diversity and multiculturalism. The city offers so many opportunities for enrichment beyond the classroom.…
