Schlossberg's Transition Theory Paper

This event relates to the Schlossberg's transition theory. This event changed my role as a daughter and a sister, which is the criteria needed for a transitional event (Goodman, Schlossberg & Anderson, 2006). Although I still had my mother and my siblings, they were halfway across the country and I felt alone. With this theory, the author Evans (2010) states that an individual can take these transitional events negatively or positively. I took the event negatively. I did the bare minimum to take care of myself and I also grew colder.
While everything in my life seemed chaotic, my saving grace was my boyfriend. I had a crush on him since I was 16 and we finally started dating when I turned 18. I was a young, damaged, and insecure girl and it led to me heavily relying on him. Our relationship spanned three years. Those three years were crucial to my development and he was at my side for my family problems, my initial difficulties with college, and me simply growing up. When my boyfriend I broke up, the friends and organizations on campus helped me feel not alone. When I was diagnosed with bipolar, I received counseling to help me. I would not grow as individual if these events happened outside of the college environment. That is why I decided to go into this field. The way higher education saved me, is how I want to help others. Although, as I mentioned, while taking my higher education classes, I started to wonder if this was the right path for me because the classes focused solely on the business aspect of it. I did not want to lead an organization, I want to help guide students.
