According to Douglas W. Smith’s book, “Schizophrenia,” there are several theories about the causes of this illness, and perhaps it could be a mix of all of the following theories, which would join to be the Bio-Psycho-Social Theory. The first theory is the Genetic Theory, which proposes that the disorder is hereditary, and that the genes can be passed down generation to generation. Next is the Biochemical Theory that suggests that the brain chemicals (serotonin and dopamine) in the sufferers’ brain are off balance, and because the chemicals are neurotransmitters, the imbalance affects the way their brain reacts to stimuli.
