From the chemical perspective, scientists believe that schizophrenia is caused by high levels of dopamine. When the neurotransmitters transport messages through each nerve an excessive amount of dopamine is being released. From the brains structure perspective, scientists believe that different parts of the brain cause schizophrenia. The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that helps us think logically and organized. A person with schizophrenia does not have organized thoughts causing them to be delusional. The auditory and visual cortex are in charge of a person’s hearing and vision. A person with schizophrenia that is having a hallucination, seeing and hearing things, is having a negative effect on this part of their brain. The basal ganglia are the part of the brain that is in charge of movement and thinking skills. Studies have shown that schizophrenic patients have a large Basal Ganglia causing them to have tremors and unusual thoughts. The amygdala is in charge of the person 's basic feeling.
