Personally,what I believe Schindler and Sterne meant by saying that the list is an “absolute good” is that the list although not intending to have the Jews;unintentionally saves them anyway. In the film a Jewish girl asks Schindler to pick up her grandparents from the forced labor camp, to work for Schindler and Schindler denies any compliment to his character or accepting that he may be a savior to the Jews. The list is an “absolute good” but unintentionally so. The Jewish people are being killed left and right for no reason and there are only a few ways for them to escape being killed. One way is to hide out in the tunnels, or in the ghetto. This requires sneaking around and a Jew will have to run and hide out for the rest of his/her life.
