In Solomon Schimmel’s paper Greed, he writes about the dangers of greed and how it is detrimental to the good life. Schimmel defines greed as “the inordinate love of money and of material possessions, and the dedication of oneself to their pursuit” on page 103. He further states, “we know that it is essentially selfish and that when practiced to an extreme it can be very dangerous” (page 104). But who determines what is greedy? Greed to one person may be viewed as a necessity to another. For example, my older sister has two cars, a summer and winter car. She had her winter car first but insisted she needed a summer car for the Okanagan versus living in Calgary. She constantly wants newer cars and other luxury items. I view that as greedy and
