I swim through the oversized streams and eventually reach the ocean through the current. The ocean full of life, the fish swirl all around me and I am filled with a sense of adventure. I follow the fish and swim through the caves, caverns, I see the remains of abandoned ship-wrecks that remain forever trapped in the water, forever protected from the outside world, preserved in time. I drift inside one and witness the past. The materialistic presence of a time forgotten and the sadness of the lives that had been lost much too soon. Eventually, I find the current enveloping me and leading me further and further along the sea, I feel warmer and the light becoming brighter and I can finally see the shore. I reach the beach and lay on the sand staring up into the sky breathing in the fresh surface air and embracing the beauty that nature has shown me, even in its darkness, light finds its way, spreads. The power of nature, displayed in all its various

The Lottery,” written by Shirley Jackson in 1948, is an interesting, dark short story. Shirley Jackson fills her short story with imagery, irony, suspense, symbolism, and foreshadowing. The story is about a town full of villagers holding a lottery. However, the story has situational irony due to the normal idea that the lottery is a prize of joyfulness. However, Shirley Jackson creates a new, not typical lottery that has a deeper and darker meaning.…

Holiday Concert Evaluation After a long summer vacation and a few months that seemed to go by fast, but felt like a lifetime, Concert Band finally had its first formal winter concert. List three positive musical aspects about the concert: I have to admit, since playing in Concert Band for two years now, this winter concert felt different than the rest. (In a total good way.) Maybe it's because I’m an 8th grader this year, and I know the rest of the 8th graders in this class so that way we’re able to participate in all the inside jokes we have as a band.…

Concert Report Two The concert performance given live that I have attended on Thursday April 20th, 2017 was an organ licentiate recital by Ian Guenette. It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Curtis Chamber Orchestra, played Violin Concerto No.1, No.3, and No 5. All three musical pieces consisted of unique characteristics, but I must say my favorite and the most memorable one is, Concerto No.1 in B-flat major, K. 207 with Hsuan- Hao Hsu on the violin. The downbeat, instantly caught the audience’s attention, bringing focus to the tempo and to its upbeat and joyful theme. It has a very charming and soothing sound to it, that creates more excitement, leaving the audience wanting more.…

Texts are deliberately crafted by composers in response to their contexts, either political, historical or cultural, composers develop their desire to construct their personal representation of the landscape to allow responders to perceive the nature in ways they do. The representation between landscape and poet is portrayed in, the romanticised poem, “Train Journey” by Judith Wright, the post colonisation poem, “Flame Tree in a Quarry” by Judith Wright and the outback painting of the effects of post European Colonisation, “Emus in a Landscape” by Russell Drysdale. These three texts convey the importance of a beneficial relationship between man and nature as a means of gaining a positive perception on the beauties of nature. Furthermore,…
