Scheduling Problems

A majority of problems start and end with ability or lack of ability to communicate. Scheduling can be an issue in any clinic, but adding a generational factor to a detailed process can become chaotic with fragmented information. This is a likely issue to occur between a millennial therapist, and her baby boomer receptionist. The most recent problems present when the baby boomer asks the millennial to set a schedule for the next six months on a Friday afternoon as the therapist is packing up to leave for the weekend. This is the second time the baby boomer has asked for the therapist’s schedule for taking patients and when she will be holding hours in the office. Last week when the baby boomer asked the millennial therapist she said, “Yeah,

Two methods used to schedule appointments would be scheduling matrix and double-booking. Scheduling matrix identifies a pattern of working and nonworking hours for a medical office. However with double-booking we are scheduling two patients at the same time for the same provider, in which the provider will have multiple patients at the same time. Three main points to verify with the payer before the patient arrives for their appointment will be, Co-pay, which it to verify what the patient will need to pay when they come to their appointment. We also need to verify if the insurance is in-network, which means if we are not in-network, the payer may reject payment or may not cover the same amount as if they were in-network.…

Dealing with generational difference in the workplace”, Robin Madell wrote about how does generational gap affect to the workplace, and the solutions for that. We are experiencing an interesting period in time. We actually have about 4 different generations currently in our work force. Each of these groups were raised in different households with different standards and different ethics. While each group (your veterans, baby boomers, generation x’s and millennials) have a lot of the same attributes in the workplace, you have many different characteristics that define each generation as their own. While there are lists and lists of differences, I believe that you can dumb them down to a few categories.…

Although FNPs fill an important role in our health care system, focusing my studies and practice on gerontology will allow me to better provide for the older adult population. My first semester clinical site was on a medical-surgical floor in Medical Center North, and most of the patients on that unit are older adults who were from surrounding rural counties. Throughout this rotation, my patients taught me the immense difficulty of managing chronic disease on top of working, parenting, and maintaining quality of life, especially when providers are inaccessible. Meeting with residents at Cumberland View Towers for Community Heath has re-enforced the complexity associated with primary care in older adults. As health issues increase in complexity and resources decrease, it is difficult for patients to…

I believe one of the greatest obstacles in the communication process comes from the diverse communication methods used between the different generations and could possibly cause chaos in the workplace. Generation X and Millennial officer’s communication are very different from each other. Few and far between their values and beliefs are inconsistent and incompatible with each other as well. In order to understand them and where they are coming from we must understand their communication characteristics. Both of them are coming from different eras such as Generation X was born between 1965, Generation Y was born in 1980, and the Millennials were born between 1981 and 1994.…

Pros: I help my patients, I am my own boss” (she does her own private practice/self-employed).…

On Tuesday morning at the Arbor I administered the ACLS to my patient which was very interesting. First I asked my patient if she was willing to participate in this activity and if she could see the holes in the leather, she stated yes. I then demonstrated the Running Stitch to her and handed her the leather. It was very interesting to watch because she would take the lace and grab it in the middle and try to run it through the hole a few times before she would slowly run her hand all the way down the lace and run it through the hole.…
