Scheduling In The Classroom

Decent Essays
1. Were your students actively engaged in the lesson? How do you know? I believe that my students were engaged in the lesson, but not as much as they were in the previous lessons. They participated in the discussion and activities and answered questions when asked, and sometimes scaffolded.

2. Do you believe your students learned the skill you focused on? How do you know? I hope so, because they presented understanding of how the components of the setting influence the story as they discussed two rooms described in the chapter.

3. What do you feel worked well in the lesson? Using an iPad and allowing the students to interact with it, helped to keep their attention. Asking the students that did not necessarily raised their hands helped them

At times it was difficult to keep the student’s attention. At one point during the lesson he tells me “Why do I have to learn this? This isn’t important. Video games and YouTube is important.” After hearing how the student thinks it made me realize that a lot of the reason he thinks this way is because he struggles with reading and with his class work.…

    (3) Summarize the main points of the post. This post discussed the introduction of the coordinate plan in a classroom. Dan begins by stating that the first coordinate plan students are exposed to is complete with a grid. While the grid allows for precision, students should not be worried about precision when learning a new concept. As Dan says, that will come later.…

A majority of problems start and end with ability or lack of ability to communicate. Scheduling can be an issue in any clinic, but adding a generational factor to a detailed process can become chaotic with fragmented information. This is a likely issue to occur between a millennial therapist, and her baby boomer receptionist. The most recent problems present when the baby boomer asks the millennial to set a schedule for the next six months on a Friday afternoon as the therapist is packing up to leave for the weekend. This is the second time the baby boomer has asked for the therapist’s schedule for taking patients and when she will be holding hours in the office.…

Reflection Wheel Journal Name: Abby Stanfield Date: November 6, 2016 Course Name: EDUC 705 ESL Methods Reflection Wheel Journal #2 Event(s)/Behavior(s): 15 points This past year I had a “Wow” experience when a group of my CLD students did not understand sequential terms. As a fourth grade instructor, we teach sequence by using transitional words in writing and identifying time order when reading. When I teach sequence by using transitional words, I create an anchor chart that groups different sequence words.…

To begin the lesson, we talked about some of the vocabulary rules the students have gone over prior this lesson (with the actual classroom teacher). After this, I introduced the newest challenge – adding the “ing” and “ed” endings. I found that during this time, I talked for most of the time as I explained the “rules” of vocabulary, asking mainly closed-type questions. With the type of questions being asked during this time, there wasn’t much for student dialogue beyond the simple answers given. While we were going through this introduction, the students were seated in front of the Smart Board and we were looking over examples in a Smart Notebook file.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

After observing the teacher in the classroom I’ve seen first-hand just a few of the challenges that teachers face in just trying to engage their students in learning or discussions. Not only is there a difference among students so that one approach works for this student and that same approach may not work for another student, but that difference is also seen in classrooms. I saw the teacher use the same approach to get a class discussion started in two classes. The first class responded to the topic and had time after the discussion to start on their next project. Yet, the second class remained relatively silent, they didn’t respond to any of the questions and the teacher could only spend so much time on getting the class to talk before having to move on so they could start on their projects.…

This case study was particulary interesting to me. I watched as the students played their games, and thought about their behaviour. They were attentive and well behaved, I think this is because the games not only related to their program of studies and their curriculum but, they were also playing games that they saw as fun and relevant to them in their home life. I the student’s enthusiasm and attentiveness helps to describe “meaningful” engage is this situation.…

My Instructional Conversation lesson went decently, although it could have been greatly improved by setting behavioral expectations. My students have never done an instructional conversation lesson and mentor teacher warned me that it would be difficult. She has been struggling to get them to talk to each other more often as well. As with most students, they have a tendency to talk and look to the teacher for approval or confirmation. I had them move so that they faced each other, hoping that would encourage discussion, but it did not accomplish much.…

Countless times throughout the lesson I made sure they had nothing in their hands or anything to distract them on their desks. On minute 23 I had one student that was drawing on a piece of paper in the back of the room. Materials quite frequently distract him on his desk to the point where he will get lost if we do not catch that he is messing with something instead of listening. I took time to tell him to put it away but did not make it a big enough deal that it embarrassed him and we quickly went back on track with the lesson. The students start to get restless at minutes 20:38 and that is when I decide to use fluctuation in my voice to draw them back in.…

This process was significant for me because it helped me to see how lesson planning is vital when it comes to the teaching-learning process. Allowing me to properly plan ahead helped me to stay organized and keep on track, thus allowing me to teach more. Not only that, I was able to help students reach objectives more easily and spend less time on managing the classroom. This provided me to have a coherent framework for effective teaching, to be more confident when delivering the lesson, and helping me plan for future adjustments I need to make to cater to all types of learners. I was deeply involved in the designing, implementing, and evaluating of my lesson.…
