These high school students are also said to be the best of the best, being ultimates in their respective talents. The first two Danganronpa follow a visual novel approach. What Kazutaka tries “... to do with Danganronpa is [to] combine elements of both: surprise the player, [and give] them an opportunity to solve the mystery” (Mackey). This technique allows the player to become invested as they take control of the player that is solving the mystery. Kazutaka enjoys taking the brutal elements of murder and tragic backstories and combines it with cute stylings, pop references, and pink blood into a new genre he calls “Psychopop” (Mackey). In 2015, Kazutaka decided to create a spinoff game to the original series in the same styling, but as a third-person shooter. However, the game has a feature that allows the player to skip the gameplay and return the game to the normal visual novel approach that most fans of the Danganronpa series are used to (Schreier). The player can also switch the difficulty setting to allow for range of players to be able to experience the spinoff game. This fiery child is the self-proclaimed leader of the Warriors of Hope. Dressed in his athletic gear and his bandages, he is presented as the Ultimate P.E. He is arrogant and childish, and he is the picture-perfect definition of a stereotypically young boy. When Komaru finally faces off against him and his giant robot that he controls in the stadium, she sees a heap of bodies that Masaru has killed, with Masaru claiming it was the “demons” he was hunting down and then exclaiming he should earn “one trillion brazillion points” (Ultra Despair Girls 2:17:02). From this statement, Masaru’s hatred towards adults is shown. When Komaru begins to confront the child on why he does this, Masaru soon begins beating himself saying, “If I...hunt down every single Demon... Then nobody has to be afraid anymore! Th-They won't have to be afraid of the violence, and the pain! ... The dark and the pain and the alcohol smell... No matter how much you beat me, I won't be afraid anymore! You hear me!? Not going...be afr...aid..."
