Decent Essays
In this scenario, you are in charge of a foundation that makes a $5,000 award to talented college students. Two students who show equal promise in their field of study are in the final round of competition for the foundation's annual award.

One of the candidates (Student A) is a Social Services major. He wishes to use the money on operating a soup kitchen. According to his calculations, the award money would allow him to feed approximately 30 persons for free on a weekly basis during the twelve months for which he is requesting funding.

Another student (Student B) is a Biomedical Engineering major. She recently stumbled upon an important discovery for a cancer cure. She applied for money to cover her tuition for an expensive course in genetics.

KOLODGY October 10, 2016 Having been involved in both Iraq and Afghanistan wars the one consistent thing that I have noticed was a high distribution of awards to officers and senior enlisted whom did not deserve them. At first when reading the citations of extreme heroism, working above and beyond duties, and rank. One would come to the conclusion that not only the person receiving the award deserves it, but the writer also has first-hand knowledge eye witness testimony of the accomplishments that were listed.…

Scholarship, service, leadership, and character are the characteristics that lay the foundation for success and are the reason why I perform at such a high degree in everything that I do. Although I’ve always had high ambitions for myself, the scholarship aspect of the National Honor Society confirms the importance of education and also reaffirms that anything is possible and it made easier with academic achievement. However, any achievement, academic or not, is meaningless to me if I don’t give back one way or another to the people who made my success possible including teachers, school staff members, fellow classmates, parents, and friends. On top of this, I learned that the smallest of gestures can make a big difference in someone’s life…

In many discussions with my administrator, I have come to realize that teacher attendance is becoming a problem at our school. In the past the teachers have had to find their own substitute, but a new program now does it for them. It is much easier to just submit an absence as opposed to having to call a list of potential substitutes until one agrees to fill in. In an attempt to encourage teachers to attend school whenever possible and recognize the teachers who have a good attendance record, I created the Postman award.…
