Thursday was the day of the Scavenger Hunt and everyone was excited. The Farmington School Scavenger Hunt was held once a year at Meadowthorpe Park and all of the students were invited to participate. The morning of the hunt was bright and clear. Teachers and parent volunteers started arriving around 8 in the morning to set up. The hunt was set to begin at exactly 9:15 a.m.

Each year the hunt had a different theme. This year's theme was Spring Awakening and the clues and prizes were all associated with the spring season. It was an especially appropriate theme for this year in particular because spring had come nearly a month early. Temperatures were warm and flowers were blooming everywhere.

Each class would follow a unique set of clues to a grand prize hidden somewhere inside the park. Each respective class would also wear matching school t-shirts as they hunted, which would create a rainbow of boys and girls wandering around the grounds.

There had been a lot of rain and the park's caretakers probably hadn't accounted for an early spring with lots of growth. The tall grass was going to make it much more difficult for students to search out clues; however, hiding them should be fairly easy.

At 9:15 a.m., when the last class, Mrs. Wallace's class, had gathered in their orange school shirts, everything was set to go. Their first clue included a poem about metamorphosis and led them to a group of paper butterflies hanging from the underside of one of the play structures. Attached to one of the butterflies was the next clue which talked about different types of bulbs. The students were instructed to find the bulb beneath the tulip.
