The woman standing at the doorway looked as if she’d not changed her clothes in days. Her T-shirt was stained and on backwards. Then a sickly smell wafted out the door that made Maddie feel sick. She wondered who drove the Jag sitting in front.
“They used to check it every thirty days according to when you moved in. Now, at least in our neighborhood, they check it anywhere in the first five days of each month. Being the middle of the month, it caught my attention.”
