The scarlet macaw is mainly native to humid, evergreen forests of the tropical rainforest in South America. The scarlet macaw is typically found in the canopies of tall trees. The temperature in the tropical rainforest ranges from about 70-85 degrees fahrenheit year round. The Scarlet Macaw shares a environment with 427 mammals such as the jaguar, sloth, or river dolphin, 1,300 bird species such as other macaw birds, 378 reptiles such as the anaconda or Jesus lizard, & over 400 amphibians such as the poison dart frog or the tree frog. The scarlet macaw also shares a home with many plant species such as cacao, giant water lilies, passionfruit flower, monkey brush vine, banana tree, coffee plant. One adaptation of the scarlet macaw is that they have very powerful jaws. Having this adaptation makes cracking nuts much easier for them. This ability creates an important food resource for the parrots because not a lot of other animals are able to access such a large variety of nuts. Another adaptation of scarlet macaws is that they fly very well over long distances because their tail keeps their body balanced while they glide through the air.
