The Scarlet letter is the letter A that is put on Hester’s bosom. The letter stands for Adultery. Adultery is committed when a person that is married, has sex with a person who isn’t there husband or wife. Partake in sexual intercourse. The time this story takes place was when puritans are dominant in the culture. Very religious people who take the sins (crimes) very seriously. The letter caused Hester so much pain and agony that she even thought about ending her life as well as her daughters’ life. Next I will talk about Hester.
Hester was a lovely woman who was married to Roger Chillingsworth. After he was thought to be lost at sea, she fell in love with Arthur Dimmesdale, and had a child with him. This is said because Hester believed that Chillingsworth was dead. Thus it could be said that she is not guilty. So I pose a question. Would you do the same thing and move on if your husband or wife was thought to be dead for two years? I could base this novel on a movie and a story. The story part is based off of Romeo and Juliet. Though there are some big differences between the two, the one I’m focused on is the fact that both pairs had to hide their love from people. And the movie one is based off of stranded deep. In the movie the male is lost in the ocean on an island for a long time. His wife waited for a long time until she finally figured him for dead. She then remarried and had a kid.
