But, I don't think Brother expected Doodle’s death to happen when it did. You could question if the cause of the death was Doodle or Brother, but really it all led down to Brother pushing him past his limits leading to his death. Other reasons Brother’s pride was not beneficial for Doodle is because the things he pushed Doodle to do were often out of embarrassment and disappointment. Although Doodle did accomplish many amazing things, it seems Brother was never satisfied with Doodle’s Progress. He mentions, “Once I had succeeded in teaching Doodle to walk, I began to believe in my own infallibility,” (Hurst, 599). With that said, it obviously had his expectations for Doodle raised, and with high expectations leads to Doodle facing more challenges to succeed to make his brother satisfied. In conclusion, Brother and Doodle had a great bond that benefited and harmed both of their lives. They both learned lessons throughout the story. Doodle helped Brother realize that pride is an important factor in a relationship. Pride can be both harmful and beneficial in relationships depending on how you view and value the person. Of course brother valued Doodle but his lack of pride harmed him but not as much as it did to benefit Doodle and helped him live a wonderful
