What happens when societies experience the inevitable pain of great oppressions or trouble? Tyrants need a problem or conflict, such as terrorism or neglection, to get the attention of the public. A person will rise up to fight. That person may look like they are motivated to help fellow humans, but he or she could be an imposter pretending to want to help the people, but in reality the potential tyrant was waiting for the chance to take power. That person will offer a solution and will have a scapegoat. He or she will offer a solution so that there is a reason to need that person. In Animal Farm farmer Jones, who represents Tsar Nicholas II, was not feeding his farm animals. Old Major shared his dream of Animalism. Old Major is based on Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin. Marx came up with the idea of communism which was brought forth by Lenin. Like Lenin, Old major died before the revolution. The revolution in Animal Farm was led by Snowball, Leon Trotsky, and Napoleon, Joseph Stalin. After the revolution the pigs assumed power and to legitimize themselves they made the Battle of Bullshead a holiday and would have the animals sing “Beasts of England.” The Russian comparison was making the October Revolution a holiday and had the song “Anthem for the Soviet Republic.” In both holidays the animals or people were encouraged to participate. Snowball was scapegoated, blamed for the farm’s problems and chased off the farm by Napoleon’s dogs. This event represents the remaining Bolsheviks being exiled or executed by Stalinists. Napoleon had plans of improvement in order to prove his usefulness which was stealing Snowball’s windmill claiming that Snowball stole it from Napoleon, but poor workmanship caused it to fail. Napoleon blamed Snowball for that, but it was really the wind.
