Scale Model Collectibles

Improved Essays
Scale model collectibles are today available to the consumer in wide range of options. Some are specifically made for the 'toy' market, while others are geared towards the professional collector and are the real 'collectibles'. Some are available in traditional fixed models and some as do-it-yourself Model kits. Manufacturers today offer a sheer array of choices and prices that make a new entrant lost and the hobby daunting.

Six Valuable Tips

1. Maintainance
It is essential to maintain what you purchased. All scale models that are kept in the open or inside the original box, preferably be kept at room temperature in a relatively dry environment, and dusted regularly. Where there is lot of humidity (specially in coastal areas) use of dehumidifiers

Storage
Collectors opt to store their possessions in display cases and other storage shelves. In a proper display case, a single coat of wax on your prized possession can last a lifetime and the need to dust will be diminished.

3. Choice of Collection
Normally new Collectors begin the hobby by collecting models that are the latest, but serious and old-time Collectors will focus on collecting vintage, rare-to-find and unique models.

Then one is also presented with another dilemma – the right scale size to collect as they come in various sizes. This largely depends on your pocket, space availability and what you wish to display. There are some who keep collecting scale models just because they wish to possess one but have no place to display due to lack of space and eventually get stored inside wardrobes or attics (typical examples are 1/18 and 1/24 that take up larger spaces). If your possessions can't be displayed then why buy them at all?

4. Choice of

True, this is but then 'smaller can be beautiful'.

These days manufacturers with advanced processes, give higher degree of detailing on a 1/43 or 1/50 scale which are indeed remarkable. Some even come with their own display cases on a raised platform.

Having smaller sized scale models also has its advantages. One can display 3-4 cars of scale size 1/43 in place of a single 1/18. Afterall, does one keep the doors and bonnets of their 1/18 open, when displayed on their shelves? If not, then what is the point having a 'detailed' model when detailing is not seen?
5. Trade
Scale models are relatively inexpensive when released but they appreciate quickly over time. Several serious collectors use that to their advantage to get more out of their investments. Certain models can appreciate 7-10 times their retail price or even more over period of time. There are several Collectors whom collect duplicates as part of their hobby, to be sold later. True, this can limit the new Collector’s finances, but it’s an approach that begins to pay good dividends after some passage of

In today’s culture and society, many people will most likely value an expensive car over an ancient artifact. In other words, artistic objects with valuable meanings are less appealing than exotic goods or products to the average person. The short story The Safe, written by Tim Gautreaux demonstrates a situation in which a few workers in a junkyard discover a safe with a fancy sewing machine inside of it. With the exception of one character, Alva, the rest of them find objects with physical value more appealing than ones with artistic and sentimental value. After being exposed to the sewing machine, Alva, Snyder, and Little Dickie develop their own sense of imagination and recognize the importance of sentimental value, which is exemplified…

Collecting baseballs opens up a way to connect not only with history, but also with families and other collectors. The collection I chose to analyze was started in 1987 because of a recommendation of a therapist to find a hobby. The man who started the collection was a military man, a member of the Marine Corps. The therapist suggested finding a hobby so he wouldn’t “bring the Marine Corps home.” That was 28 years ago and the man’s collection has expanded along with that man’s emotional growth.…
