Storage
Collectors opt to store their possessions in display cases and other storage shelves. In a proper display case, a single coat of wax on your prized possession can last a lifetime and the need to dust will be diminished.
3. Choice of Collection
Normally new Collectors begin the hobby by collecting models that are the latest, but serious and old-time Collectors will focus on collecting vintage, rare-to-find and unique models.
Then one is also presented with another dilemma – the right scale size to collect as they come in various sizes. This largely depends on your pocket, space availability and what you wish to display. There are some who keep collecting scale models just because they wish to possess one but have no place to display due to lack of space and eventually get stored inside wardrobes or attics (typical examples are 1/18 and 1/24 that take up larger spaces). If your possessions can't be displayed then why buy them at all?

These days manufacturers with advanced processes, give higher degree of detailing on a 1/43 or 1/50 scale which are indeed remarkable. Some even come with their own display cases on a raised platform.
Having smaller sized scale models also has its advantages. One can display 3-4 cars of scale size 1/43 in place of a single 1/18. Afterall, does one keep the doors and bonnets of their 1/18 open, when displayed on their shelves? If not, then what is the point having a 'detailed' model when detailing is not seen?
5. Trade
Scale models are relatively inexpensive when released but they appreciate quickly over time. Several serious collectors use that to their advantage to get more out of their investments. Certain models can appreciate 7-10 times their retail price or even more over period of time. There are several Collectors whom collect duplicates as part of their hobby, to be sold later.
