My life revolves around theatre. Whether it is rehearsal, memorizing lines, building sets or fundraising it's always about theatre for me. It is stressful to balance school work and time with theatre, but I’ve never loved stress more. I know that my school has an outstanding theatre program. I have seen outstanding school plays and have been part of great shows. I look forward to going to rehearsal and theatre class everyday. Most of the time it’s the only reason why I want to go to school. There are lots of kids like me that feel the same way. Some kids aren’t good with numbers and formulas. These schools often resort to cutting programs such as theatre,art and music. In most situations programs in the arts are almost always the first to go. Schools choose “to cut those that have the least amount of learning”, and don’t make as much money as other programs (Dickson). Wrongfully so theatre is cut. All of these claims are ridiculous and far from the truth. Why are sports not cut? One reason why schools keep sports is to help the recurring problem of obesity. Obesity is a problem that does need to be solved but sports aren’t the only way to get active. Sports are helpful to get kids in shape, but some kids don’t have fun playing football or soccer. Kids need an activity that they enjoy so they will keep wanting to do that activity. Sports make a lot of money from football and soccer games. Students, teachers, and parents can all come together to fundraise money. Maybe a silent auction or selling homemade cookies! The littlest things can help. If people from the community come together a huge difference can be made. Not only are you making money for your school but, you are promoting yours school's programs. Bigger sports crowds and audience to come watch talented students. Instead of hiring a coach or director maybe a parent volunteer can help. There are so many ways to help save money! All in all schools shouldn’t cut theater programs. Kids need their outlets. Kids need to have something they care about and have passion for. Theatre has so many great benefits for kids mentally and physically. If your arts programs are being cut at your school all you have to do is stand up. Make it loud and clear that what you love to do is important. It may not be the most educating or helping cure cancer directly but it doesn’t mean it’s not
