In an article by American Academy of children and Adolescent Psychiatry states that studies have shown that, “Extensive viewing of television violence by children causes greater aggressiveness. Sometimes, watching a single violent program can increase aggressiveness. Children who view shows in which violence is very realistic, frequently repeated or unpunished, are more likely to imitate what they see. Children with emotional, behavioral, learning or impulse control problems may be more easily influenced by TV violence. The impact of TV violence may show immediately in the child 's behavior or may surface years later.” (Collins 1-4). As a parent you almost always refuse to believe things like these, because you believe that you are “always aware of your kids surrounding and what they do,” or you refuse to believe that something like television can psychologically affect your child. If you are one of those skeptical parents then I suggest that you examine it for yourself. I can explain from my own experiences. in a way I conducted a similar experiment to that of bandura’s. In my “experiment” I allowed my youngest sister, who was nine years old at the time, to watch an action film about war with me. The film I chose did not contain too much violence and profanity, but it had enough to have an affect. Within hours of finishing the film, my sister was already reenacting parts she could remember from the film, even some of the insulting phrase used on the film, she was repeating. Throughout the rest of the day her behavior was a little more angry and aggressive but nothing to much that could not be handled. By the next day her behavior was normal, and it was all forgotten. Even though the experiment that I conducted did not have an effect long term, it nonetheless had one. I believe that this goes to show that, like Bandura and many others who have conducted studies on this matter, even the midst of
