“Lord of the Flies depicts the transformation into savagery of a group of English schoolboys stranded on a desert island without adult supervision in the aftermath of a plane crash.” (“On Symbolic Significance of Characters in Lord of the Flies.”). In the beginning of the novel the boys were scared but they still had hope. They known that they needed a chief, food, fire, and a place to survive against the elements. When they decided who the chief was the boy realized the differences in what Jack wanted, and what Ralph wanted. In the novel ,The Lord Of The Flies, written by William Golding the character Jack represents savagery, Ralph represent order and civilization, and Piggy represents intelligence. In the book, Jack represents savagery and in today’s society people have divers opinions about savagery. This is shown in the book when Jack and some of the boys chant when they hunted for food.The boys who felt remorse for the pig didn’t think it was necessarily to chant along. The chant is

Ralph understood the fact that they needed food, but once he saw the pig died and had to listen to the way jack and the boys killed it he couldn't find the words to say anything. Piggy is not like the rest of the boys, he is very intelligent, without him they wouldn't have had the conch shell, because Ralph had no idea how to use it.You can see how he help Ralph when you read this line “Piggy laid a hand on his jutting abdomen.” (Golding 16).
