The events that took place in the novel like the murder of Simon, the pig, and the boar demonstrated Jack’s evolution as a character. Jack and the choir boys killed a pig for the first time, but though they had killed a living creature, Jack felt excited, and proud as he retold the story of how they killed the pig (Golding, pg. 52). This shows how Jack can be cruel, dangerous, and evil, all at once. Another example is when they killed the boar because they killed this boar with so much viciousness, and it is a representation of a sexual act; a gang rape (Golding, pg. 105). The killing of Simon was an act of savagery and first instincts because Jack and the choir boys wanted to defend themselves and kill “the beast” once and for all, but they never thought that they would end up killing Simon. The way they killed Simon was horrible, but for the benefit of everyone they blamed Simon for his own death, they felt that it was his own fault for being killed. “One of the curious features of personality change is that we are more profoundly altered by highly unpleasant experiences than by highly pleasurable ones, possibly because painful experiences signal imminent threats to survival” in the case of Jack, and all of the boys this could be a clear evidence of why they may have a psychological trauma later on, or even suffer of a personality disorder (Barber, Nigel, 2012). The boys including Ralph may have done things because, of fear for physical harm from Jack and that is a main trigger to psychological problems (Barber, Nigel, 2012). Science has now proven that trauma can affect personality, “Contrary to this belief, studies have shown that personality changes with experience and that personality state rather than traits abide by the proposition of psychotherapy theories: personality change does actually occur” (Lee, Hong-seock, etc.,
