Personal Response to Text: Saturday Aasrija Puchakatla

For many individuals, significant events can have a great impact on their ability to determine their own destiny. These events can depend on the environment they grew up in or are currently living in now. Also the people they have met and are in contact with throughout their lives can play a big role on their choices. For an example, an individual grew up in a home with strict parents, who send their child to highly academic schools. Those parents also make sure the child does their very best to get the top marks. They then expect the child to go to an university to get a degree, and a successful job after that. These

Dr. Henry Perwone is a successful neurosurgeon who has an 18 year old son named Theo. Dr. Perwone grew up in a strict household, and received top marks from school all the way up to medical school. Without any complaints or questions. Then there is his son, who is a free spirit, who also grew up in a similar atmosphere, but Theo chose not to follow that path of academics. Theo preferred a career of something he really loved and enjoyed: being part of a band called New Blue Rider. A blues group that is slowly reaching their way up in the world of British Blues and are doing performances at bars, and clubs. The events that most likely had an impact on Theo’s choice for his career, his destiny, other than his personality and his love for this genre is because when he was younger, his father and grandfather taught Theo what blues is and how to play it on his guitar. His father, who had a passion for this genre, did not have an option like Theo did. For Theo’s father, his events were mostly influences of working hard and studying for a successful career. While for Theo, his passion and talent for blues, let him meet others of similar interests which inspired him to choose his destiny to be part of a blues band, and working hard to reach his goals for his music …show more content…
I also have a passion for singing and dancing. My first dance lessons were when I was 4, always singing along to the songs even if I didn’t know the lyrics, making them up to the tune. When I was younger, I remember of wanting to be a singer, I even cried telling my mom that I wanted to be a singer instead of “those boring office jobs.” As I grew older, I realized, there’s so many kids in this world with so much more talent than me and that it’s risky as well. I realized this career choice was not so worth it. There were so many stories about people who have that one or two songs being a hit, and then that being the end of their careers or those musicians turning into a mess. Also being a person that prefers more privacy and personal space, it seemed like a not so much of a fun career. I decided that I should follow my parents’ advice because they know what is best for me and I’m academically better off than through entertainment. These significant events of learning the experiences I would have gone through both paths and the influences from those around me have made an impact on my ability to determine my destiny. This is to choose to listen to my parents and working hard and do my best in school, to hopefully earn a useful degree. By choosing this path, I know that I will have a more likely chance of a comfortable

At the beginning of the course when this assignment was explained, I automatically knew that I was going to choose Neil Young as my topic since he fits the criteria of the assignment perfectly. To begin with, Young was born on November 12, 1946 in Toronto Canada. From a young age, Neil was attracted to music and began to appreciate music more and more. Young promptly learned how to play folk songs on a plastic ukulele that his father gave him and then years later he accomplished to play acoustic guitar. His passion in music was so immense “that he formed his first band while being in junior high school” (Neil Young Biography).…

“Music is the mediator between the life of senses and the life of the spirit.” (Beethoven) The story in the book The Soloist by Steve Lopez is a well-presented plot through which we can learn a lot. While the story of the book can be said to be covering a variety of themes; music, homelessness, mental illness, and friendships, I am of the opinion that the themes of mental illness and music are the base of the story. Nathaniel Ayers suffers from schizophrenia, a mental illness that affects his moods and causes him to have bouts of anger, stay in silence and other times speak incoherently.…

Decisions can lead to a fantastic future. Although everyone makes the right choice too see a happy future some crash and burn. Two examples of great and tragic choices are Malcolm x’s movement and the Michael Brown killing in Ferguson, Missouri. Malcolm X believed that American blacks should go to the United Nations and demand their rights, not beg for them. Malcolm X gave African Americans something no one else ever had which was a sense to challenge racism and to proudly demand change.…

As a child, my family went to church quite often. My grandmother always taught me that wanting to do something is one thing, doing it is another. There was a competition the church would take a group of kids to where you could do various activities and singing was all I wanted to do. Being young, I was hesitant because in my mind there was a lack of skill. All year was practicing and training my vocal chords to win first and of course I did not succeed on my first attempt, I was only eight when the realization came to me that singing was my passion.…

T If there is one thing in this world that I just can say that I absolutely cannot stand, it would be people who talk for no reason. I understand that majority of the time talking is your way of expressing yourself and getting through everyday life, but it irks my soul when someone just starts an irrelevant conversation about nothing for no reason. One explanation on why I don’t get along with talkative people is because sometimes when they’re getting too hype on the conversation they intended on bringing up, they start to talk about the wrong things at the wrong time.…
