Satisfaction In Nursing

Findings revealed that participating mothers in this study were dissatisfied with post CS pain management. On the other hand, mothers were satisfied with the way doctors and nurses responded to their pain. Satisfaction with a health care provider is a very important measure for quality of services offered by health care organizations to individuals, families and communities (Klopfenstein, Hermann & Mamie, 2000). In the current study, 60.7% of the mothers were satisfied with pain management provided at the post natal ward (5B). our results slightly lower than results by Chung et al(2003) who found that 21% of post-operative patients were extremely satisfied and 66% were satisfied with pain relief. Findings from our study could be explained in terms of available resources for pain management that are meager but also, the self-perception of satisfaction. …show more content…
The short coming of not providing adequate information, less participation of mothers in decision making all could have affected satisfaction. Studies have supported the notion of increasing satisfaction levels by increasing access to information, improving communication with health care providers as well as actively involving patients in decision making (Niemi-Murola, Poyhia, Onkinen et al., 2007). It can be inferred from this study that pain management is a central role by nurses and midwives and should not be underscored.
