Satirical Analysis Of The Saturday Night Live Commercial

Improved Essays
The Saturday Night Live “Pepsi” commercial was an example of satire because it met the qualifications to do so. Those qualities were talking about a serious social issue, interpreting it in a humorous way, and overall making a valid point. The satire sketch was referencing the Pepsi commercial that was released earlier this year. The commercial displays a protest that is in full motion on streets. People of all races can be seen as participants of this protest. Then, Kendall Jenner comes into the scene when walks out of the photo shoot she was doing straight into the mist of the protests. At the end, the protesters and policemen that are facing this large crowd come together when Kendall gives one of the police officers a Pepsi. At that point, everyone comes together …show more content…
The woman only hears the beginning of his commercial idea and tells him it’s just the worst idea he could come up. The director is finally realizing he is wrong and asks the women what he should do. At this point the commercial is about to be shot. The woman tells him to run but it’s too late, Kendall is already on set and is playing her role in the commercial as the director is in panic about what is about to happen. In my opinion, it was really funny how all the people he asked for their opinions about the commercial told him that it was a bad idea even though he thought it would be the best commercial of its time. Overall the satire sketch made a point because the commercial was offensive in the way they portrayed how protest are. Protests are nothing the way they made them seem. There is a lot of violence, vulgar language, and even death behind them. If they actually wanted to start a movement and make a change they should have shown the truth about protesting. From there they might have shown how even though were all different ethnicities we are all still the same, buy our food in the same grocery stores and maybe even drink the same beverages such as

In the article, “Ad Industry Veterans Honored with Cola Memorial” it is taking the time during Cola Wars, a critic from the Onion, a satirical website. The rivalry between Pepsi and Coke then compares it to a real war, but actually, intend to ridicule the soda rivalry. The purpose of this article was to denounce those who allow simple, insignificant things, such as beverage choice to become a heightened situation when there are tremendous problems in society. American consumers were mocked with the use of burlesque satire in order to help them to understand that there are more issues out in society than a competition between two soda’s company. Therefore, the Onion uses the rhetorical devices of client testimonials, distortion and hyperbole.…

In the piece, “Back to School Satire,” the author gets his point across in an entertaining way, but is also contemplative about it. There are many times through this piece that I apprehend what points the author is trying to express to us as an audience, however, he goes too far with some of his comparisons. To start off with, in the second paragraph the author tries to humour us by saying, “Throwing one’s racquet at an opponent after a pingpong match build good character and strengthens the opponent,” then also says, “what’s more, if the opponent has glasses, it would be beneficial for the glasses to break.” Even though this quote does show how it is at a public school it seems to be very immature for the author to say and seems like he…

Kendall Jenner is perceived as from this photo as out of touch with reality. There was major backlash because the commercial aimed to create the conception that police brutality could be ended by handing and officer a Pepsi. Bernice King, daughter of assassinated Civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, tweeted about the ad “If only Daddy would have known about the power of a Pepsi” including a photo of her father being pushed by police. There was no harm meant by the commercial, however the ad had to be pulled because of the backlash received. In direct juxtaposition the second photo is seen as peaceful, pure, and unadulterated.…

The cultural change of women in advertisements is also apparent in figure 1.4. In contrast to the 1950’s and 1960’s ads which use traditional gender stereotypes of the time, the 2007 ad entitled “Life is good” uses sex appeal to market the beer. In this advertisement for Bud Light, a product designed by Budweiser, an African American woman is seen holding a cold bottle of Bud Light. Her provocative look, sultry eyes, and pouty lips force the viewer to look at her and what she is holding. According to psychiatrist John Barnhill in, Research and Studies on Color Perception and Color Preferences shows that when it comes to shades, tints and hues men seem to prefer bold colors while women prefer softer shades.…

Of all the 2016 Super Bowl commercials, the commercial I have concluded the most effective is the Hyundai commercial with Kevin Hart. However, effective is a subjective word in this case, but the criteria used in my perspective of it is that the commercial created a connection with the viewer, was able to be memorable, and set itself apart as more than “just a product”. Through a mix of storytelling, playfulness, and outrageous acts; Hyundai was able to achieve and surpass those criteria. The first thing that many people, from peers to big companies, pointed out about the Hyundai commercial was Kevin Hart. Hart is an extremely recognizable star for his hilarious comedy and his playful personality.…

The commercial won a Cilo Award for best advertisement of the year. Thirty-Eight years later it is still believed to be one of the best Super Bowl commercials of all time. Never mind the fact that so many great commercials have been played during the super bowl since 1979, but to be considered by the public as one of the best commercials with the lack of quality and technology they have today is amazing. The author’s main goal was to show that drinking Coca-Cola will make you happy and the creator of this commercial should be praise by the simple yet effective delivery.…

This commercial is also, in a way, made in a skit format, leaving room for a lot of improvs to be done. This is smart logically because now the audience can take a different look at the commercial and have more of what real reactions look like and how this mother would really tackle an everyday mishap. Therefore, the commercial is even more effective because we are getting real reactions from people who are viewing this commercial. Also, because of it being left to improv and showing the real reactions, we get real emotions and that leads into how pathos is shown and used throughout the…
