In the 1980's we had cocaine. It was pure, cheap and plentiful. Now, due to Ronald Reagans infamous "war on drugs" campaign (among many other things), cocaine as we once knew, is long gone. However, addiction is a subtle beast. It's resilient in all its ways and finds new methods to persevere. In the modern age, we have our addictions, although it is not so much to cocaine. Instead, it's technology.

Just look around anywhere in the world and you'll come across someone with their phone glued to their ear or eyes zoned in on a tablet. Technology and the internet give us content and information that's easily accessible, and we love it. In just a matter of clicks, we can find anything online. While this seems like positive aspect, it has a downside

In a way, Putin should not get too hung up on this. Governments all over the world struggle to take down Piratebay. It's nearly impossible to track. This is because once the illegal content is removed from one site like Piratebay, it simply appears on another. Even blocked sites like RuTracker or Piratebay remain accessible because they can just hop from domain to domain. Even Putin's internet advisor thinks the whole thing is crazy. He calls their policy "madness" and thinks it's embarrassing the government. Well, he is partially right but Piratebay is embarrassing the whole world, not just …show more content…
How will Russia handle piracy? In fact, how will the world handle piracy? Sites like the Piratebay certainly aren't slowing down anytime soon. Piratebay opened the portal to millions of internet and information addicts. Now that they have seen the light, can they really go back to their old, mundane lives? Imagine the world where everyone went to iTunes to buy music or the cinema to watch a movie? It's quite humorous to think that is the world we once lived in. Now, Piratebay changed all that.

Do artists deserve payment? Of course, they do. However, we also deserve to have free information. Piratebay changed the game forever and the world was just not ready for it. That is why you are seeing countries like Russian and the U.S struggle with this issue. No one wrote the book on piracy policy. Everyone is just making it up as they go along. Maybe someday some sort of agreement will be reached. However, for now, it's colonial Caribbean and the pirates ae

Unfortunately for merchant interests, enticing pirates to quit their criminal endeavors failed as badly as the military efforts to stop them. Although pardons were successful at bringing pirates into shore, they did not keep them for long. Many shook the hand of the governor, swore his allegiance to the crown, and then shortly returned to preying on vessels at sea. The failure of pardons to slow the proliferation of piracy cannot all be blamed on piratical greed. Pardons were specific to regions and times, and the vague language they contained raised fear of trickery.…

Expo tackles the tough labor, workforce and life challenges facing Black males There is a scene from the motion picture Captain Phillips, starring renowned actor Tom Hanks, that depicts a poignant scene which will permanently be etched into my consciousness. In the movie, Hanks’ character has been kidnapped by Somalin Pirates whose intentions are to complete a ransom transaction with the US government for his release. During the aforementioned scene, Hanks looks over to the groups’ indignant leader, who appears devoid of any rational traits of humanity, and asks “But if you are fisherman, why are you doing this? When you think of pirates you probably think of one-eyed men with patches over their eyes, or scruffy looking men with a wooden leg. Although those kinds of pirates have been gone for centuries, pirates still sail the seas. In the article “Modern Piracy” it says that the pirate attacks have increased by seventy-five percent in the last decade. While Naval forces are taking care of some of the pirates, they can’t stop them all. These pirates diffuse throughout the ocean so that the military will have a harder time catching them.…

Currently, pirates are being especially bothersome in multiple ways. For one, pirates are allowing large drug rings along the border of the United States and Mexico to be reopened. The largest being a former wing of the Gulf Cartel, called Zeta. Zeta seems to have good control over this area and their trade, selling dope and robbing fishermen of everything valuable, because the boats they use are faster than the boats used by the coast guard, “Border Patrol agents tried to follow a Mexican boat filled with men wearing ski masks, but it was too fast for the agents and entered Mexican waters, where U.S. law enforcement is forbidden,” (Washington Post 9). Also, the pirates here have gone past the point of simple robbery or piracy, and have ventured into…

Everyone is aware that there are still pirates out there, and they can be just as violent as pirates from many years ago. But what you may not know is that most modern day pirates hail from Somalia, a country on the North-east coast of Africa. Somalia was not always like this, this is the product of a large state collapse that left many of it’s citizens left with no choice. It all started with the assassination of the country's second president, Abdirashid Ali Shermarke, who was killed by his very own bodyguard, hired to assassinate him. After his death the army chief General Mohamed Siad Barre took over, even though he was speculated for hiring the paid assassin.…

In the earliest days of software, the 1960’s and 70’s, computers software was not protected under copyright laws (Story, Darch, & Halbert, 2006); free information sharing, software in this case, was embraced in the name of furthering science (Speres, 2009). Today, however, piracy (anti-piracy) is at the top of many Northern governments’ agendas (Story, Darch, & Halbert, 2006). Many of the negative effects of proprietary software on countries of the Global South compared to free and open source are directly related to larger access and developmental issues (Story, Darch, & HAlbert, 2006; Shalden, Schrank& Kurtz, 2005). Economic access, undoubtedly, is among the primary reasons Southern nations cannot enforce or afford to enforce the strict regulations…

Information Security in Game Development As can be seen by tuning into any modern news media outlet, information security is an international concern. Unfortunately, one area that is often left out of the security conversation is the video game industry. The general consumer base rarely hears about security standards when it comes to game development, and it is hit or miss from one game to the next as to whether there is security in place to protect the machine and network it is being played on. (Mohr & Rahman, 2011) Nevertheless, a handful of users are aware of the security issues inherent in modern technology.…
