Satire In The Comedy Show 'South Park'

Improved Essays
South Park is a comedy show that has been around for many years. During this time, there has been many episodes that "poke fun" at different religions, such as, Mormon, Scientology, Christianity, Judaism, Agnostic, and Muslim. There isn't a religion that this show won't touch. This show in its own is a religious oppression because it tries to be a religious satire, but in a very offensive way. One of the main characters, Kyle is Jewish and his friend, Cartman, constantly makes fun of him for being a "Jew." He is also very rude to Kyle's mother and even made a very unfriendly Christmas carol about her because she is seen in the show as abrasive and nosy. There is a particular episode that they were going to show a depiction of the prophet Muhammed,

Recently, political correctness has swept into the forefront of modern day culture. The term has come to mean a variety of things, but at its core is an idea that words and actions should not offend or make anyone uncomfortable. However, South Park has managed to remain strong to its roots by still being inflammatory and offensive with the series continuing to draw heaps of criticism from many different groups. While South Park may not conform to what polite society expects, it manages to provide biting satire and commentary. Marcus Schulzke argues in “South Park and the Transformation of Meaning” that a hateful word’s meaning can be changed over time which can be seen in “The F-Word” in which the boys call a group of loud bikers “fags” as they try to get them to leave town (2012).…

In today’s society we are introduced to many problems that are always put to the side and is never taken care of because people are so in denial and don’t want to face the truth. In the simpsons intro the writer uses satire( the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues) to explore the flaws of society through his made up fictional characters. Some issues that I have come to a realization are the fact that parents in this century are not paying enough attention to their children and holding them fully responsible for their own actions. In other words children are doing whatever they please with no care whatsoever in the world because they know that there is no consequences for their actions. This also causes these children and teens to misbehave in class which leads to a distraction that takes away learning from kids whom parents actually send them to school to learn.…

Samuel L. Jackson once said, “We’ve come a long way in our thinking, but also in our moral decay.” This quote holds true today as society stays rapidly changing and people become more and more desensitized to the horrors of the world. The line between right and wrong fades and turns to a larger gray area, and many things that happen in society today make us question how we, as a collective people, ended up where we are and how we acquired the customs we have today. Aldous Huxley, in his novel Brave New World, uses a great deal of satire and exaggeration to express his concerns for the society he was born into and bring attention to the problems of moral decay, drug dependency, and brainwashing, among other things, in the world.…

One ominous morning of 2008 I woke up to a saddened atmosphere. I look around at my parents, who are hardcore republicans, and asked them what was wrong. They said that they had lost the election. My eight year old self replied that they never won because they never ran, and of course they explained that their party lost the run for presidency. For the years to come every time I would look at the news and see a little “R” next to a person name I would know that they are the “good guys”.…
