Shrek’s appearance alone has created humour due to his abnormally large features, odd shaped ears and his peculiar green skin tone. It is a funny sight to see that his ears reflect his emotions, almost moving on their own accord whether he is happy or sad. Throughout the movie, Shrek exhibited blue humour. It is not surprising due to that fact that he lives in a grimy swamp and showers in mud. At the opening of the film, Shrek is narrating a fairytale then as he finishes, he proceeds to rip the page out and crudely uses it as toilet paper. His personality is ironic. The viewer would usually see an ogre as hideously intimidating while uncaring of others opinions’ however Shrek is hypersensitive, keeping himself in solitude from negative judgements. His appearance is slightly humorous due to his oversized head, stubby legs and his extreme overbite. Throughout ‘Shrek’, he has displayed slapstick. At the front of Du loc, he is seen trying to pass through the turnstile but unfortunately becomes stuck in it. He pushes with his hooves and is let free with an unrealistic spin, causing him to land awkwardly. Another slapstick moment is when Shrek holds down a large tree to create a bridge for Fiona but as Donkey takes one step onto it, Shrek lets the tree go, causing Donkey to hurl backwards over the forest and into the air. It creates comedy because he is extremely clumsy and does not injure himself from these stunts.
