As the clock strikes eleven, with the world being only minutes away from being fast asleep, the TV comes to life with late night talk shows and comedic entertainment. The humor and skits capture each viewer into a mesmerizing trance, leaving everyone in tears from the hysterical performance. What the viewers don’t realize is not only are they being entertained, but they are also being informed on current issues. Each show is made by men and women who are not only facetious, but are also very intelligent. The skills they use revolve around the concept of satire. From the beginning of time, humans have always been teasing each other. Making snide remarks is a way of putting someone down without getting into a physical fight. In society today, using satire is a great way of accomplishing this. In satire, there are two main categories, juvenalian and horation. Juvlenalian is a more malicious way of addressing a current issue and is usually used to scorn or point out the flaws of a plan. Horation on the other hand, is a more gentle amusing way of focusing on a current issue. This can be most commonly found on TV shows and skits. The point of horation is to be witty yet to get a message to the viewers without saying it bluntly. When preparing a satire, there first have a purpose, something to be criticized. Next, using the four techniques of satire create the message. The four techniques are exaggeration, incongruity, reversal, and parody. These techniques
