Satire About Bullying

Negativity is one of the great faults of the human race. Despite our best efforts, it seems we often cling to those nasty comments and criticisms, rather than the heartfelt words of encouragement. From personal experience, I can easily say that negative comments, even those from strangers, stick with me much longer than the compliments from my closest friends and respected role models. Although negativity cannot always be escaped, bullying is a completely unnecessary form that creates nothing but pain for all involved. The modern era has been one of steep change and progress, especially within the field of technology. However, accompanying the benefits, there have been repercussions, especially within the younger generations. With so many teens, and even pre-teen children, possessing some sort of internet connected device, acts of bullying have become not only more frequent, but also more vicious. Basically, bullying has gone viral. Suddenly, it seems that anyone is able to post or say hateful things about people they don’t even know, because they can remain anonymous behind their screen. To the instigator, it may seem negligible or even funny, but for the victim, it could be that one malicious comment that pushes them over the edge. It could turn a bad day worse, it could be the difference between a night of sleep and a night of crying, and in some cases, it can be the difference between life and death. Cyberbully victims are at a higher risk of depression, and as a result they can fall behind in school, turn to drugs or alcohol, and in the worst cases, they may commit suicide.
