sassafras tree is the only tree mentioned that seems to not be present in Europe; Brereton describes this tree as “a tree of high price and profit.” This tree was likely the most profitable of all the above mentioned trees as it could be used for medicinal purposes, such as curing scurvy, and would likely have been useful in Europe and the New World.
