The organization that I have chosen for this paper is SAS Institute (Statistical Analytical Software) because I recognized it on the Fortune list that was assigned for this class in Module 1 and this is because I have learned about the company in a case study during MGT 111. This company intrigues me because I travel to North Carolina where its Headquarters is located and would like to learn more about it. This specific company has been recognized globally because of its workplace culture and as stated above has been recently ranked #4 best workplace in the United States by Fortune magazine. This magazine contributes it to “generous benefits, everything from onsite childcare, health and fitness center, a pharmacy, and subsidized meals” (100 Best). The mission statement is, “SAS delivers proven solutions that drive innovation and improve performance”. SAS delivers a product, which is analytical software that helps companies optimize business processes, by doing this it helps them analyze data so they can make more effective business decisions. The software that SAS sells was invented when a North Carolina State University Professor Jim Goodnight started a project to analyze agricultural research. Some interesting facts are that “91 of the top 100 companies on the Fortune Global 500 list are SAS customers” (2014, April 14). The software that they sell is located in over 75,000 business, government and university sites. And lastly they have 13,870 employees. SAS can contribute a lot of this success to the culture that is very relevant on its giant campus. The culture that they give their employees fosters creativity and promotes innovation.
