The first image that I would like to focus on, the above-ground graves, I associate to the ancient Egyptians, who entombed their ancient pharaohs in stone sarcophagi. To me, the reverent care, and attention to detail, that it took for the ancient Egyptians to create the sarcophagi, gave them a sacred value above anything monetary. Similarly, the sarcophagi in my backyard were also highly detailed, and specific to an individual. Each crypt felt to have the same sacred value as that of the ancient pharaohs. I also think that the likeness of the individuals on top of the sarcophagi is also along the theme of ancient Egyptians. There is a feeling of great permanence with the carving of stone portraits, it is something that the ancients created, that is still here today, and will be everlasting.

One ending, as a dynamic in my personal life, that I have been thinking about, is what to do when I graduate Sonoma State. It is an ending in my life that I have little control over, and something that I personally consider a large positive life transformation. It could be that each crypt represents the ending of my life as I now know it, but also the beginning of a new life. It is impossible not to separate the sarcophagus in my dreams from the fact that they are above-ground, and have transparent sides. I can see that a body occupies each tomb. The bodies are on display, but presented in a way that is like they are sleeping reverently and peacefully.
