In the Hindu culture, it is believed that Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge and the arts. It is she who invigorates creation as well as rids the world of ignorance. Brahma, the creator of the universe, also created Saraswati and became her husband. There are many disputes concerning how this goddess came about, but all ideas involve her coming from Brahma in some way. As his consort, he split himself in two from his forehead, mouth, thigh, or rib. Interestingly, Saraswati’s origin parallels the story of Athena, born from a forehead, and Eve, born from a rib.
