Sarah's Key Movie And Book Comparison

The book Sarah’s Key by the New York Times bestseller, Tatiana De Rosnay, wrote a fictional story about a real tragic event that happened in the past located in Paris, France. Julia frequently compares Sarah Starzynski and her daughter Zoë Tezac together, but the two girls are different. Sarah had to experience tough times being who she was, while Zoë had a positive childhood. In specific, the differences are about homes, families, and how Zoë had a better self-esteem than Sarah. Starzynski had experienced the camps from the Holocaust, was forcefully taken by the French police away from home and both of her parents were also sent to the camps but later on exterminated in Auschwitz from Drancy. The Starzynski family, except Michel, Sarah’s 4 year old brother, were all scared to leave. “You heard me. You are coming with us. Your daughter too. Just do as you are told” says the Police (3). Zoë had never been sent away from home affected with the police. Secondly, Sarah never really had a home anymore after she had escaped. She only had Jules and Genévieve Dufaure, the elder couple who helped Sarah and Rachel, but lost her original place in Paris. “What are you doing?” he gasped. “What are you doing in my room?” (160). Edouard Tezac, when he was a young boy, moved in her old room without knowing Michel had been rotting in the cupboard. They took over her home where she grew up. Sarah was scared and very sad, but Zoë was happy and felt safe in Paris. “Zoë was French, born in France. She would go to a French school. At present she attended the Lycée Montaigne, near the Luxembourg Garden” narrated Julia (17). Since she is French and born after the events, she can feel free going anywhere without being stopped or judged.
