Future Profession Interview When assigned an interview in my freshman level English class, there was no doubt in my mind that Clint Selman, my honors psychology professor, would be my first choice. Professor Selman is by far one of my favorite professors and I, coincidentally, hope to someday have his exact career. Selman works as a professor of psychology at Tyler Junior College as well as a part-time counselor at the Samaritan Counseling Center of Tyler. For the interview process, the two people that I interviewed were Martha Millison and Cecilia Rivas. Martha Millison is a school counselor at Green-Wood Charter School in Philadelphia and Cecilia Rivas is a CUA chief management supervisor. When both Martha and Cecilia came and spoke to our class, I was so intrigued by what they said that I wanted to know more about their work field. My realization materialized when Professor Jovanovic discussed her daily routine and how much she accomplished in a day, which subsequently made me realize I need to start implementing some of these strategies. Between having a new special education Director, Cyndi Panko and watching the district handle the ongoing crisis, this course, and these readings are opportune. As I watch Cyndi endeavors to build strong relationships with parents, community, and other district administrators she applies many techniques described in both readings. I participated in a crucial staff conversation in which Cyndi terminated a contract employee's contract. The book “The Big Time” was written by Tim Green centered towards a younger audience and written as a sports fiction book. The protagonist, Troy, a young football standout who’s life is absorbed in football, in the most basic level, and even on the most extreme level in the NFL. He has a mind unlike any other kid his age or adult for that matter. He has the ability to read the offensive patterns set during a game before the play even begins. A defining moment, for those fortunate enough, is one’s college career. It is a time of self-discovery, new experiences, independence, but above all, the time to work toward a higher education. Adrienne Rich, in her convocation speech “Claiming an Education,” highlights the vital importance of higher education.
