I can recall it being around Christmas and seeing her face all over the television. Hearing her name come out of everyone’s mouth. On the Eastern Shore, crime and violence make up the daily life. A local devastating murder of Sarah Foxwell took the whole Eastern Shore by surprise because she was so young, she was only in the sixth grade when she was tragically raped and murdered by a familiar face in her family, Thomas Leggs. There was more to Sarah’s life than just being a victim of kidnaping and murder. Sarah had been only a kid just like the rest. Living her days to the fullest as an “outspoken, a shining star in her 6th grade class in Salisbury, Maryland” (“Sarah Foxwell Case”). Sarah came from a big, loving family, "of nine children, and she was right there, smack in the middle, and she was the one that was the referee, the lover, the hugger, the one that always had a smile, no matter how bad her day was, she always had a smile”. Today, in society single parents are raising children which is the norm. Sarah was raised by a single mother and would undergo problems here and there. Regardless if Thomas Leggs was going to plead guilty and get the death penalty. The plea is introduced in all cases, it is “something that is alleged, urged, or pleaded in defense or justification” (“Plea”). Leggs had the plea agreement of “removing the option for the death penalty while ensuring consecutive sentences of life without the possibility of parole” (“Plea Agreement Means Life”). When getting a consecutive life sentence, it means that “Unless specified "without possibility of parole," a life sentence really means 20 or more years in prison before parole is possible consecutive sentences would have to begin serving the second sentence upon being paroled for the first” (“Back-To-Back”).
