It shows us that she really does care about this subject and she did her research about it. She states that “the condition is under-studied and no one knows how widespread it is”, she’s trying wake people up concerning this subject by relating it to our everyday life and I totally agree with her. I feel that this disorder might lead to other problems, for instance obsession with healthy eating can cut out other activities and interests, ruin relationships, and become physically dangerous. How? Richards calls people suffering from this disorder a “horrendous pain in the ass” because they are so picky about what and where they want to eat. As cliché as I might sound now, but this article taught me to not make fun of people’s habits, because they might be suffering from a disorder that isn’t well known and they’re going to have to put up with my funny jokes. For example, not long ago, a 20-year-old athletic boy went into a sudden cardiac arrest and died. He was healthy, but he wasn’t aware that he had a hidden arrhythmia. Providing the symptoms AND solutions really does show how concerned she is of this subject. This 4 paged article can let you know whether you are a victim of this disorder or not and thank God I am not one. Also, the way she ended the anecdote was supreme. By using Bailey’s story, she showed the readers that whoever might be suffering from this disorder must not worry since it is treatable and that you’re not going to suffer from it your entire life. All it takes is some confidence and perseverance.
Richards excelled in discussing orthorexia. From a person who didn’t even know that this disorder existed, I am now well informed about this subject and I am also willing to tell people about it for it to get the study it needs. And I consider this subject a serious one because you never know what might result from
