The world introduced the future adored author on June 6, 1970 in Evanston, Illinois. She grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where she eventually attended UNC – Chapel Hill where she would study Creative Writing and graduated with a degree in English with highest honors. This book is a perfect example of how to write great, natural dialogue, fleshed-out characters and relationships. Quotes “when faced with the scariest of things, all you want to do is turn away, hide in your own invisible place. But you can’t. That’s why it’s not only important for us to be seen, but to have someone to look for us as well” and “I’d done the right thing. I always did. It just would’ve been nice if someone had noticed” support natural dialogue, fleshed-out characters and relationships perfectly. The two quotes from the book both explain that us as individuals should be noticed for most or even all of the things we do right. Most of Mrs. Dessen’s novels coincide with the change in youth’s personality as they go through any kind of loss. The regular themes that she uses concur with her novels conciliate isolation, emotional aloofness amongst families and an attempt to change other individual’s personalities.
