Theme Of That Summer By Sarah Dessen

During the most hectic year of Havens life she comes to a realization. In the story That Summer it tells a story in the first point view of a girl named Haven.The story is written by the author Sarah Dessen. During this summer of her life her parents get divorced and her sister Ashley gets married . In past summers Ashley had a boyfriend named Sumner. During that past summer he went on vacation with them and Haven't got attached to him.This character is one of the very important ones which help the story progress. Towards the very end of the story the story has a lot of significant passages which show her after she realizes that she was stuck in the past. This was demonstrated in the text when author wrote that Haven remembered the strong bond she had with her sister and that she was dwelling in the past.At the end of the story Havens sister Ashley helps her come to a realization the she is stuck in the past and need to grow up. AN important setting was when Haven went to Virginia beach the summer she went on vacation when her mom and dad were still together. This setting is explain when Havens thoughts say “Once we turned off onto the smaller roads that would come up along the virginia coast”(Dessen 30)This reveals what the setting was and this quotation shows why is was important.” When i think back to that week in Virginia beach.
