This talk was presented by Susan Cain, a writer, author, and lecturer, about how society misunderstands the role that introverts play in many places (Cain, 2012). Cain begins her talk with a background story in which she was forced to take upon the identity of an extrovert at summer camp and how she was ……… about embracing her introvert self. She was given the message that her quiet and introverted style of being was not the right way to go and that she should try to pass as more of an extrovert (Cain, 2012). Due to that, she hid her suitcase of books she brought to camp with her – the only things that made her feel alive and comfortable. She lived the rest of her childhood and teenage years pushing aside her introversion to prove to herself and others that she could be bold and assertive (Cain, 2012). For example, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, Ghandi. Even though taking the spotlight was a huge emotional battle for them to overcome, they were in control because they were driven to do what they believed was right (Cain, 2012). Cain also mentions Dr. Seuss, a famous children book author, and Steve Wozinak, inventor of the first Apple computer, were both introverts themselves and were so successful because they liked solitude and it influenced their creativity. However, Cain mentions that she happens to love extroverts and that many of her loved ones happen to be one. She believes that the world needs a much better balance and how it that is especially important to creativity and productivity (Cain, 2012). Also, she also believes that collaboration should not end; talking to others and working together can make many ideas come to
