This letter will detail the various ways in which Ms. Britton’s interests, many of which lie beyond the realm of academia, and the way in which she approaches the literary arts. Britton displays compassion and intelligence that can often be seen through her attentiveness during classroom discussions. Her ability to learn through almost all methods including visual, kinesthetic and auditory is a reference to her adaptability both as a student and an individual. Her strengths lie primarily in critical analysis and mathematics as she enjoys the analytical aspects of all academic courses. For these reasons, she plans to pursue the study of mathematics as she continues her schooling while remaining avidly involved in athletics.
Although being of a more athletic disposition, Ms. Britton nonetheless works diligently to excel in all areas of studying including the literary arts. She hopes to see higher academic achievement through the course of the semester and work towards improving in all areas of study. The area in which she hopes to see the most improvement is in her writing skills through attentively working on this aspect of the upcoming course. Wanting to formulate well-written analyses of texts and essays, Ms. Britton will continue to demonstrate exceptional capabilities in all aspects of this course. She fully comprehends the merits of exemplifying a strong work ethic, one which will continue to inspire fellow

As a student of the College in the Schools program, the class WRIT 1301 has provided me the opportunity to improve my writing and prepare me more effectively for college. During this semester course I worked with peers to improve not only my own writing, but also improved my analysis of peer works of similar structure. My first paper, a narrative titled Confessions of A Living Sin, was arguably the easiest piece to create, while simultaneously being the most difficult to write. Narrative pieces push writers to write of moments that are strong in emotion, and often times leave the writer vulnerable to whom is reading their work. For me, my vulnerability was discussing the ostracism I faced as a queer and transgender person in a conservative…

Since the beginning of my first year at school I have been learning to read and write. Throughout these years I have had a lot of experiences with reading and writing. All through high school we would write responses and essays over books we read. Once I entered college everything changed; I began to learn about writers and people who were known because of their great works of literature. In college, you are held to a higher standard and responsibility than you are in high school; this challenge has encouraged me to work hard and because of this I have become better at writing.…

David Bartholomae sought to explain the difficulties students had in adjusting to the writing style expected of them in your standard university. This urge led him to write an essay which he named “Inventing the University” In this radical essay he explains in great detail why students seem to have such difficulty in writing university discourse and some practices we could put into the current public school systems that would help alleviate some of the difficulty most college freshmen face. In this essay I will be covering some of the major points he hits upon throughout his essay. Bartholomae starts by explaining the experience of a freshmen first entering college.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
