The theme of how change can be positive and negative is seen several times throughout the book. One of the examples is when Jennifer’s only friend Cameron leaves, she’s left alone. So, she changed her appearance and attitude to make herself someone people would want to be friends with. As a result, she lost weight and gained friends. Even though Jennifer changed on the outside, she’s filled with insecurities and painful memories when she is reminded of her past. The thought of her past haunts her throughout the book.
