On Tuesday, October 31st, 2017, a terrorist attack occurred in Manhattan New York on the Hudson River view bike path. A rental truck driven by Sayfullo Saipov drove down the bike pathway hitting innocent pedestrians and cyclists. Charges were filed accusing the driver for carrying out a long-planned plot to kill people celebrating Halloween. The driver, Sapiov was described as a “meticulous student of ISIS Propaganda” by the New York Times reports on him and his terrorist attack. He began planning this attack about a year ago, and he took a test drive in a parking lot of a Home Depot in the rental truck last week. He chose to do the attack on Halloween because more people would be out walking the streets of Manhattan. This attack was said to be the deadliest terror attack in New York since September 11th, 2001. By the time his rampage ended, he killed six people instantly and two others would later die as well. He injured over a dozen innocent civilians, four of them critically injured but in stable condition. He spoke strong English in the Manhattan federal courtroom on Wednesday. He rolled into court in a wheelchair on Wednesday evening. He was charged with one count of providing material support to terrorists and one count of violence and destruction of a motor vehicle causing death. CNN reports say “authorities found a note claiming the attack was made in the name of ISIS near the truck used in the attack”. After the attack, Argentina’s Ministry of Affairs said on Twitter that five Argentine citizens were killed in the terrorist attack.
