Traits of Santiago In “The Alchemist” the main protagonist is a young boy named Santiago. From the start of the book it is revealed that Santiago is adventurous and determined, for instance in the beginning of the book it talks about how his parents wanted him to become a priest. Santiago right off the bat was uninterested in that idea, Santiago wanted to go out and see the world for himself. He wanted to meet new people and see new things and places. All of these things couldn’t be provided working as a priest, so he decided to become a shepherd so he could go see the world.
