They felt compelled to get revenge on the man who deflowered their dear sister. Because honor is such an essential expectation in the society, no one really questions their actions and thoughts about killing Santiago, not even Father Amador. In fact, he believes the twins are justified and have a clear conscience because “it is a matter of honor.” (49) The twins do not want to kill Santiago, however, they claim that they must do so to preserve and restore their family honor that their sister jeopardized.They got drunk, sharpened their knives and told the entire town their plot to kill Santiago. This led to Santiago’s death right soon after without any surprise, bad feelings and scowls towards the Vicario twins. The twins then surrendered without the slightest bit of guilt because they truly believed they accomplished their quest to restore the family honor.
