The boy offered his bottle, hoping that the old man would leave him alone.” This quote provides an example of how Santiago’s first negative trait is being anti-social. It develops the emotion Santiago is introducing as the first impression the old man has on him as more kept-to-himself, because of him not talking to many other people besides his sheep and books. The next negative trait of Santiago is that he can be a bit over optimistic at times which can definitely affected Santiago’s adventure.
