To many Santiago in the novella The old man and the sea by Ernest Hemingway, may seem to be the furthest from a hero, but in reality santiago fits the mold. He might not be the type of hero you believe but he fits the mold for a hemingway hero. A hemingway hero is based on most of his books and the “hero” in each of them. Some of the qualities that Santiago has that makes him a hero according hemingway hero are he is brave, courageous, humble, he triumphs over adversity, he has pride, endurance, faces death, he is determined and has honor. In the novella Santiago displays the quality of bravery. Santiago goes out to far and he knows it but instead of going back he is brave and stays out that far to go and get the marlin.
