In the three articles: Santa Sander, Students Falling for Sanders, and College Doesn’t Need to be Free. it discusses Senator Sanders and his plan towards free tuition. He feels that it is a good idea to offer this to in-state students for college. Some of the authors of the articles agree with the idea of free tuition. In two of the articles, it states that Senator Sanders had an idea to help the poor and middle-class college students to get free college tuition. The cost of college today is extremely high for some families to pay for, because of the extra college expenses. However, some people agreed with him. He does not agree with “free tuition” because the government would be paying for it. Lane states that many parents agreed with the fact of giving students free tuition, but they doubt that it would work for the better. People felt like if they offer students something for free they will just take it for granted. Economist William Baumol has famously argued that college-level instruction inherently requires large inputs of highly skilled labor, making it relatively resistant to automation and hence to productivity increases (Lane). When you get a higher education, you will get a better paying job that will help you pay back your student loans. The article states that with free tuition being offered colleges will get a huge group of students coming in and driving the cost up. Centralized budgeting by state education authorities is key to that country’s system (Lane). Germany has a less number of students to finish college than America because they get the students who want to stay in college and not graduate. Lastly, he thinks that just because they are taxing the upper class to help the poor and middle-class people that they are not getting all their money back. Dom Giordano tone is extremely harsh, compared to Charles Lane and Colpo. His mantra should be: “Sucker students of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose, but your student-loan debt” (Giordano). Sanders planned on only offering free tuition to people who are attending a four-year college or a community college. Many students feel like some of the classes they must take will not get them jobs that will help them pay back their student loans. No matter how much Sanders might think he is going to help by offering free tuition, some students will take that and get to college and not do their work. As far as community college, many of my students told me that if it were free it would attract slackers who would not be serious about their education and cause problems in the classroom (Giordano). Sanders would have Hillary Clinton look over all his positions. Also, Sanders revived socialism from history because of anger towards Wall Street. When colleges make their tuition so high, they don’t think about the poor and middle-class people who cannot afford college.
