Basilica of Santa Sabina, 422-432. Santa Sabina has a dominant central axis that leads from the entrance to the apse, the site of the altar. The central space is known as the nave and is on either side by side aisles. Each of the enormous arches create a visual rhythm that leads our eye down to a critical point. The architecture is simple with wooden, truss roof. The walls of the nave is broken by clerestory windows that provide direct lighting in the nave and does not contain the traditional classical orders articulated by columns and entablatures. The spolia are columns that were reused from a pagan building and have been repurposed in a Christian context. The columns carry a nave arcade of arches. The columns and pilasters form verticals
